Under the pressures of ecology and overpopulation, which are the latest condition of our collective existence, Vilma Mare LLC promotes fashion out of man made fibers, hi-tech textiles and creates low intensity labor requiring designs. We take FLA (Federal Labor Association) standards critically from the very product development. We also think of bringing the balance between Man and Nature through the mass usage of a substitute (less usage of natural fibers). Vilma Maré, company's designer and creative director, sees a need for everyday office-wear to become more active, therefore lighter, more youthful and flexible. With unique structure of a garment and specific fabrics she accomplishes the goal and adds a "science fiction" style to complete the new message. Starting in 1997 with womenswear, she soon offered a softly constructed jacket for men and in Fall'2000 menswear line VM was presented. At present Vilma Mare LLC produces three labels: Vilma Maré (women's sportswear); VM (men's sportswear); ICA*INU (eveningwear); also contracts uniforms (for spas, salons, laboratories) and special projects (costumes, custom orders, etc.). Within four years of post-corporate existence Vilma Maré presented her creativity at 10 shows, 5 exhibits, 5 seasonal collection presentations and 1 trade show. Associating most of the activities with multimedia Vilma Maré spreads a very specific and uniform look amongst fashion conscious urbanites. Designer introduced new wearable materials as PTU (polyurethane coated wovens and knits), new sewing technology, care free clothes that are water, dampness and stain-resistant, extremely durable, non-wrinkle and light. At DUMBO Art Festival in 1999 Vilma Maré directed a performance "Instant Product" to demonstrate these qualities. Models/dancers were seated in the wrap-like clothes on the industrial dock, later stretching and tearing the wrappings in certain perforated areas until it appeared to be glamorous outfits for the catwalk finale. Being easy to present after transportation, Vilma Maré's designs and costumes were showcased by numerous performers. Designer's collections were exhibited in Saint Etienne Design Biennale 2000, France; Sony Style, NY; GenArt State of Fashion; Art Directors' Club; S.O.S.; Lunar Gala 2000 & 2001 of Columbia University and NYU; Antique Boutique windows; Gallery "Enter Here". Vilma Maré's interest in resins and polymers grew after she was commissioned for a landscape dress by architect/designer Gaetano Pesce. The work was thereafter exhibited in Toronto Modern Art Museum. Vilma MarŽ's professional experience developed working for designer Mark Jacobs, The Gap, J, Crew, Bureau de Style and other companies. With her futuristic style and athletic/utilitarian sense of fashion she attracted corporate sponsorships or commissions from Sony, Adidas, Upshot Marketing Agency, New Bay Corp. Fall'2001 collection was presented in Chelsea, NYC warehouse in collaboration with Lunar Design, Con-fu-sion, Edgy TV and Res Media Group. The show represented environmental consciousness and referred to Utopian cultures: brotherhood, unisex clothing, uniformity, visual celebration of the real and imaginative world. |
